Safe Sunscreen For Babies

We want to ensure every baby is smiling this summer at the beach, park and outdoors without any risk or harm to their skin. A recent concern of a Queensland mum Jessica Swan applying generic sunscreen resulted is major sunburn for her baby needing hospital care. This generic sunscreen was approved by cancer council but obviously loaded with Parabens and toxins.

Sunscreens should protect the skin from burning by either absorbing the harmful rays or reflecting them from the skin. Appropriate clothing, cover and hat are still absolutely essential. Babies must be protected away from the sun as much as possible. It is important to apply sunscreen 20-30 minutes before going out in the sun.  This allows the sunscreen to reach each layer of the skin and provides maximum protection.

SPF30 sunscreens will protect for 30 x 8 minutes or 240 minutes (4 hours)
It is also important to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours or after toweling dry.  This will not prolong the amount of time you can stay in the sun but will ensure the effectiveness of your sunscreen for the remaining time that your sunscreen provides protection.
